One way to get more exercise is to stop calling it exercise! If you hate to exercise, it will be difficult to motivate yourself to do it. You may prefer to call it “recess”. If you have good memories of recess, go out to play once a day. Go throw a frisbee, play catch with your dog or a friend or shoot some baskets (a great cardio workout and yes, women can do it!). If you prefer, grab a friend a just go for a walk and catch up on each other’s lives. No more exercise, just having fun while moving your body.

Most New Year’s Resolutions last less than 3 weeks; many don’t make it until lunch time! Often, the problem is that we make the our goal the resolution when behavior change should be the resolution. So, try this: Think of a small behavior that you will change just for today. It may be to walk around the block (or even around the house if a block is too long), eat protein for breakfast (this will help you eat less all day) or even to eat just 6 cookies instead of 12! If you just master one new behavior a month, next year you may not have to make any resolutions about your weight!
